Castle Inn

Hidden gem. Great location, easily accessible to Muni. Room was furnished with a fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. Lots of outlets to plug in and charge devices. Quiet, yet steps away from all that the City offers.

Central location, very walkable to what my brother and I needed. Many restaurants and coffee shops close by. Although off a main street, the hotel rooms sit back away from the traffic in a kind of alley way and the room was amazingly quiet at night. Very big queen beeds, high off the ground so might be a bit of a jump for kids or less mobile adults but we had no problem. Great water pressure and hot water. Coffee maker in the room, no breakfast served but that's fine and was not expected. Front desk person was very kind and efficient. Room had a microwave and a large mini fridge with freezer compartment. Our stay was great!

The ice machine was broken. Not the property manager's fault, he had it repaired a day or so before, and it broke again. Owner may consider replacing or having a second machine on another level. It is hard to buy and carry around bags of ice in the city, and I like very cold drinks.

Location

The parking is a bit tight since it is right off the main road, but finding a free parking in this area is rare so cant complain.

Castle Inn had a great location. Our family loves to walk and we could walk everywhere! 5 blocks away is the cities best park for kids... it's called Lafayette Playground, and you have to check it out. There's an Acai bowl smoothie shop a block away, as well as a Birite grocery store. We walked over to China Town and North Beach. We even walked to the Exploratorium. A few times we did get tired and took a short bus ride or took the Cable Cars. It was lovely. And amazingly, this little hotel goes back away from the street. So, while there's a little city noise, there's really not much since the bulk of the rooms are tucked back.

The only thing that was a little off putting was the loud AC. But I was glad to have it for the one weirdly hot March week we were there. Most times you may not even need it.

The location was great and the check in staff was very helpful.
